Thursday morning. Like any other, I wake up at 6:45, take a shower and power up my computer to check my email.
The internet says the weather today will be wonderful. Today is a special day, so I put on my brown skirt and cerulean sleeveless top I love so much.
I grab my purse, making sure my Rosary and Bible are inside then dash to the door and my car.

Rosary goes the same as it always does. Reverent, fervent prayer for Mary’s intersession in our insignificant little lives.
I cross myself with holy water as I leave the Cry Room to enter the nave. I can feel Margarette, my sponsor, behind me. This makes me smile. She is such a strong woman and someone to discuss rural life with.
Despite being in the South, people don’t get true rural life.

The Mass begins. The Liturgy of the Word goes as it always does. That is, until the homily. Fr. Joe begins talking about whatever…then gets onto the fact that I’m joining the church that day.
And then he brings up the fact that at Easter Vigil, everyone was wondering where ‘the smart girl’ was.
Could they not get creative?

I worried about knowing the Creed for nothing. All I did was reply “yes” after each little part. Fr. Joe swiped Chrism oil onto my forehead after Margarette proclaimed what my confirmation name is-St Clare of Assisi. The oil smelled soooo good.

We do the dance that is the Eucharistic prayer. The small group that attends daily Mass make me step forward first.
I bow.
“The body of Christ.”
“Amen.” I opt to receive on the tongue. A humbling experience that I do not touch Jesus with other than my tongue and I’m reliant upon the pastor to place it carefully there.

“The blood of Christ.”
“Amen.”

I walk back to my seat and kneel, thanking God for the day.

I can still taste the body and blood for a good three hours, even after having breakfast.
